History History on the Wall…

I spend a lot of my time studying history. History of Kings and Kingdoms, of Emperors and Empires, of Revolutionaries and Revolutions from the East to the West and the North to the South. I find common themes in all of them - The destructive ability of man to himself and his kind.

I find out how rulers have used religion as a guise to cover their evil deeds for centuries. How influential women in the shadows have orchestrated decisions by men that had huge impact on the destinies of millions. I found out how peasants start a revolution and elites with an agenda hijack it. The more I learn about history and about how and why men and women took the decisions they took in the past, the more I see the parallels in today’s world. The more I see that history is not only repeating itself every now and then, it is also predicting itself every now and then.

The question for me as it should be for you is what is happening now that looks like what happened in the past or what happened in the past that seems similar to what is happening today? The answer to that question is not in observing today, it is actually in the study of the past.
